My Little Ounce of Sunshine pt. 3

Hey everyone! I'm sorry for the delay in this series. Thank you always for your continued support! I'm praying for a great day for all of you!

Much love and keep dreaming,

Momo

Nearly tripping into the door of my workplace because I missed that first step, I had a feeling that today was going to be adventurous. I said a quick, awkward hello to the receptionist and pretended to text my imaginary friend with just me and the janitor in the small elevator car before I found my office. Opening up my door to find a pile of unedited papers and newspapers, I found the way to my desk and sat down, tired. “Today is going to be a good day.” I said to myself, although not knowing if it was going to be true or not.

After finishing most of my work, I headed out for lunch. I ate my same avocado and ham sandwich on that same bench outside and decided that it was time to work on my blog again. I opened my laptop and a rush of nostalgia hit me as I read over my old stories and poems. I thought of the journey that it took to get to where I am now, and thanked God for each step of the way. I reminisced of the old days, remembered how the pain made me strong, and how each day was used to make me who I am now. It may seem like a long and sometimes grueling process to find your dream, but it is worth all of those years of wait and practice.

Staring off into space, I recognized a figure in my peripheral vision.“Hello, Ms. Robin.” I heard that familiar voice. That voice that I felt I could hear every time he commented on my blog. That voice that seemed to appear randomly, yet soothingly and comforting. My heart seemed to beat faster, but tried to remain calm on the outside.

I raised my head to see Haruki standing in front of me. He held something behind his back, and in the other hand, held a bunch of papers stuffed in a stretched out folder. “Hi Mr. Matsuro!” I replied happily to see my friend join me for lunch.

“May I?” he motioned his hand to the empty seat next me on the bench. I guess I’ve never realized that I only sit on the edge of the bench. I did this as a kid, just in case a bird or bunny wanted to sit by me, but I guess it carried into adulthood.

I nodded and put my lunchbox on the ground next to my purse. “I know that this is quite abrupt, but today is the day that I met you on your blog…” He looked down embarrassed. “So…I brought us your favorite strawberry cake!” He held two slices of cheesecake in a cute container with both of his hands and bowed his head. The container was wrapped in a big pink bow and a big, juicy strawberry sat on a cream cheese frosting on the cake-just how I like it.

Surprised by this generous gift, I stuttered. “Thank you so much! You really didn’t have to!” I waved my hands frantically in front of me.

“I hope you are not embarrassed by this. I’m sorry if I scared you.” He smiled.

“No! Thank you so much! I can’t believe you remembered my very first post. This is so kind of you and I don’t know how to repay you.” I clasped my hands together and leaned forward slightly.

“Well,” he sighed. “since I brought two slices, I thought we could share it together.” His dark grey eyes that seemed to reflect the galaxies and stars at night looked me in the eyes directly.

I clapped a few times, “Ok!” We shared the cake happily on my bench. I never dreamed of anyone ever showing interest in a friendship with me, and I would have never even daydreamed of eating dessert happily with one of my viewers! The day seemed much brighter and much happier. It seems like God really did have everything under control. “Thank you, Mr. Matsuro.” I smiled.

“You are welcome, Ms. Robin.” He stood up, bowed his head towards me and began to walk back to our work building, but then stopped and turned around,“But, if you’d really want to pay me back, then why don’t we have lunch together everyday?”He revealed a happy smile.

I didn’t think about his offer, but replied quickly, “Yeah!”

“Then, I’ll see you soon, Ms. Robin.” He waved his hand as he turned around and gave me one last grin before entering the building…
