Stay in the Light

Fumiyo Kōno's manga "Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms"

If I learned anything over summer besides the fact that I love this new Japanese drama called “ Good Morning Call” and that I am a horrible procrastinator, I realized that we need to be around “light.” When I say “light,” I am referring to the people who make you “feel alive,” happy and appreciated. The type of people who will not leave you, not recognize your qualities and gifts, and ultimately, if they are pulling you away from God. It took me a whole school year, a kind sister, and a sci-fi convention to realize that I spent too much of my time with the wrong people…

These people are very kind people. They don’t have wrong intentions, and they made me happy, until they decided to like each other. When I first befriended them, it made me happy because I finally felt like I could relate to them. I guess you would call us the “nerds” at school who liked anime and video games. But, it didn’t stay that way for long…

To make this story shorter, I will end by saying that they truly are good people with good intentions. It’s just that I don’t think they’ve realized the hurt that they caused. They don’t know that by liking each other and not including me and my friend, that they’ve forgotten us. I will still want to be there for them and be respectful to them, it’s just that I realized that with people like this, you need to distance yourself from them.

If someone doesn’t appreciate you and use you instead, then it’s best to politely and respectfully, distance yourself from them. It may be hard at first and confusing, but it will ultimately make you feel free.

So, if know people like this, then I would consider your conversations and how they make you feel. Apologize when you need to and continue to be there for them when needed, but don’t let them drag you down.

I hope that you were able to learn something from this too! I’m sorry if I ranted a bit, but I sincerely hope that you take these words to heart and remember them in future relations.

Know that whenever you feel lonely, unappreciated, ungifted, or are thinking any negative thoughts, know that even though I am talking to you though a screen, that I am here if you need a friend. Continue to believe in your dreams, to seek the good in each day, and to make it an effort to bless others and please God!

Much love and keep dreaming, Momo
