Hello wix family!
How are you doing? In this post, I’ll be doing things a bit more “heart-to-heart.” So, get up, grab that big cup of coffee, and be ready to nod your head in agreement and give this rant a long, slow clap, because you might just relate! But this time, I’ll be writing to my old self-so this should be interesting.
Dear younger Momo,
You have a lot ahead of you. You have much to learn, many new experiences and encounters that you will soon face, and a brand new way of thinking. At this point, you’re probably still confused with life and worrying and stressing out about everything. Don’t worry, it will get better. Some things about you will change-you will have a better sense of fashion and you will have a best friend. She will come. So, just be patient and stay away from people who don’t treat you right- as Dr. Seuss says, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
And as you get older, Momo, you will begin to realize many things. Remember how you tried everything to please your parents because you feel like a shining beacon of failure? Momo, cut it out. God may not reveal to you the talents and gifts that He is going to give you just yet. Sometimes, you just need to be patient and trust the journey. When you find this dream of yours, keep it. Keep it safe and locked in your heart because although not everyone will understand it, it will help you through the toughest times in life and bring life back into you when you need it.
And Momo, just to give you a heads up, you will get countless talks in the car about your future career. Listen to your parents and heed their advice like a good daughter would, but also keep in mind the dreams God gave you. This may have taken you years to figure out Momo, but don’t settle for a job that you’ll be miserable in. Of course you need to support yourself and be an “adult,” but you also need to learn how to take care of yourself. You don't have to be a doctor who gets married to another doctor, and then have children you drive to a prestigious school, and to soccer practices and piano lessons on the weekend, just because you feel like you have to. (Note that these jobs are some people’s dreams and that they are a blessing to have. Being a doctor is a great dream to have and you need to have a good income. So, if your dream is to become a doctor, chase after it! After all, you’re the lifesavers! But you know what I’m getting at, for the sake of my dream personally.) You know what, big surprise! You can be a single cat-lady who lives in her apartment with her best friend in South Korea! You can have dreams of your own too, so keep it a secret for now that you don’t necessarily want to be married person and live an office job like everyone else, and keep fighting! It may take you a while, but you’ll figure that out soon enough. If it's God's plan, it'll be wonderful, and if not, God's got something better, so stop taking those career tests online.
And lastly, my younger self, enjoy life. Stop wasting your days stressing over tests and stop being around people who make you unhappy. Life is all about finding that dream that God gives you and living it for Him, you’re not living for anyone else. Life is all about treasuring each day, being appreciative of the people around you, and taking it step-by-step. You may not reach your dream overnight, but know that it’s that journey to life that makes you who you are. Yes, that was way too cheesy for my liking, but sometimes those cheesy lines in books are right. Life is too precious to be wasted being unhappy. So, get yourself ready for an adventure. It will have difficult times and uncertainties, but it’s God who you’ll be able to rely on.
Keep dreaming, Momo. Keep your head up and smile. Life is beautiful and happiness can be achieved if you make it a choice.
Love,
Your Older Self
